About Us

The Networked Mobilities Lab (NML) at NC State University (NCSU) promotes interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research on mobilities enabled by mobile and networked technologies. With a special focus on urban settings, we aim at understanding the different ways people, spaces and mobile networked technologies are interconnected in contemporary society.

This focus includes, but is not limited to exploring how urban mobilities are intertwined with, differential and sustainable mobilities. We also focus on locative media, mobile creativity, mobile art, mobile games, and histories of mobile technologies.

Goals:

  • Contribute to the interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research on networked mobilities and mobile communication with a particular focus on global and intercultural practices;
  • Offer interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate courses about networked mobilities and mobile communication cultures;
  • Develop open-access research projects that increase awareness for both public and academic audiences about the significance of networked mobilities and mobile communication cultures;
  • Foster global and/or inter-institutional collaborations with scholars interested in networked mobilities and mobile cultures.
